September 13, 2021 (Hyannis, MA) – The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod Charitable Foundation Trust (The Coop Foundation) has announced the awarding of $29,000 in grants to five organizations that provide programing to address fundamental needs and challenges of the local community.
“The last 18 months has exacerbated the challenges faced by many year-round Cape Codders. It is a struggle for so many in our communities to afford to live here on the Cape,” said Lisa Oliver, President, Chair and CEO of The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. “Further complicating the situation, it’s become increasingly challenging for nonprofit organizations to raise funds in the midst of a pandemic. We’re honored to award these grants from The Coop Foundation to help these organizations continue providing critical services for our neighbors who need a helping hand.”
The following grants were awarded:
- $10,000 to Champ Homes of Hyannis to support its Transitional Housing Assistance Program and Youth and Young Adult Program. Champ Homes has been addressing homelessness on the Cape for 30 years and has helped more than 3,000 residents during that time. Beyond addressing immediate needs such as hot showers, toiletries and food, its programming helps participants obtain employment, secure permanent living and much more.
- $5,000 to Crystal Garden Children’s Learning Center of Hyannis to build a new safe and inclusive playground so they can further their mission to provide year-round, early education to medium and low-income families. Crystal Garden’s child- and play-centered curriculum is based on an educational philosophy that young children should be respected as unique individuals in order to meet their full potential.
- $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod (HHCC) to help fund six affordable homes in the town of Harwich. HHCC has constructed 153 volunteer-built affordable homes on the Cape since its inception in 1988, serving families with incomes at or below 65% of the median income of Barnstable County. For this project alone, there were 58 applicants.
- $1,000 to Neighborhood Falmouth, which provides assistance to Falmouth seniors so they can stay safely and comfortably in their home for as long as possible. Services include transportation to shopping areas and doctor’s offices, assistance with bill paying and banking, and simple tasks such as bringing recyclables and trash to the curb.
- $3,000 to Pleasant Bay Community Boating of Harwich for a new adaptive kayak for its Adaptive Boating Program. The organization built a new dock this summer, which is universally accessible and includes a Hoyer lift and two kayak launchers. This grant will complete the kayak set, which were specially designed to open the sport of paddling to everyone.
