SEASIDE LE MANS – THE RACE FOR THE CAPE COD COMMUNITY CANCELLED FOR 2020

(SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA) – As the response to the COVID-19 outbreak continues, a decision has been made to cancel the 20th Annual Seaside Le Mans – The Race for the Cape Cod Community, originally scheduled for September 12 at Mashpee Commons.

After navigating all of the possible scenarios and taking input from key partners, race organizers believe it is the correct move to ensure the health of everyone as the community successfully moves forward in the fight against the virus.

Safety has always been the number one priority and this year that means racing will not be possible. Based on current guidance from the state, holding a public gathering such as Seaside Le Mans that attracts a large crowd would be difficult under current parameters.

“We know this comes as a disappointment for the beneficiaries, generous sponsors and community of supporters, but we also know it’s the right decision based on the information we have today,” said DeWitt Davenport, founder of the Seaside Le Mans and CEO of The Davenport Companies, which underwrites the entire cost of the event.

Donations are still welcomed and, as always, 100% of support will go directly to the critical work of the beneficiaries through the Cape Cod Foundation.

“We’ve raced in all conditions and hoped we could make the 2020 race a reality, especially knowing the beneficiaries need support more than ever right now,” said Davenport.

The Seaside Le Mans team still aims to help support the missions of the five deserving organizations throughout this year and into next year. They include Cape Kid Meals, Cape Cod Military Support Foundation, Cape Cod Baseball League, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History and Cape Cod Healthcare.

Over the past two decades, the annual fundraising and community event featuring Formula 1 karts driven by local business sponsors has generated more than $7 million for 50 non-profit organizations on Cape Cod. Thank you for your patience and understanding and please stay safe and healthy. We hope to see you on the track in 2021.

Established in 1956, The Davenport Companies remain family owned and operated. The South Yarmouth-based operation has evolved into a real estate holding and investment company with businesses in the hospitality, services, and real estate industries.
