Nov 17-18 Turkey Shoot Out and Food Drive at Blue Rock Golf Course to Benefit Create the Good

Blue Rock Golf Course and Create the Good Partner to Provide Thanksgiving Dinners for Local Families

(SOUTH YARMOUTH, MA) – The Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth, MA will be hosting their 14th Annual Turkey Shoot-Out & Food Pantry Drive on November 17th and 18th, joining forces for the seventh year in a row with Create the Good. Create the Good is a local non-profit started in 2010 by a group of Yarmouth parents to provide food for students of the Dennis-Yarmouth school system. The constant need requires ongoing community donations throughout the year. During the 2-day event, as many as 150 golfers will play the course with a portion of their entry fees donated to Create the Good. Also, many of the golfers who win turkeys through closest-to-the-pin contests donate them back to the Thanksgiving efforts.

The public is encouraged to drop off canned goods, non-perishable food items and grocery store gift cards to the pro shop throughout the weekend as volunteers will be on site creating the Thanksgiving Dinner bags. Last year, Thanksgiving dinners were provided for 125 local families and the goal this year is at least 150 dinners. Any extra donations will be used to fulfill last-minute requests. The program has also expanded to accept donations of coats, hats, mittens and gloves. According to Create the Good founder, Stephanie Flynn, who is also a chapter coordinator for Cape Kids Meals, “The Turkey Shoot-out is our biggest event of the year, but there is a year-round need throughout the Dennis-Yarmouth school system. We provide backpacks of food every Friday so kids who have nothing on weekends now have 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, snacks and fruit. At this time, 56% of the students in the school system are receiving free or reduced lunch so the need is great.”

PGA Head Professional Patrick Fannon said, “We are so excited to once again work with the parents and volunteers of Create the Good as they help families in need. Working together as a community is important to all of us.” Golf registration ($40 per golfer) and additional information on donations are available at the Blue Rock Golf Course at 508-398-9295.
