Mike Morrison/RideAway Adventures Receives Stewardship Award

Yarmouth Port, MA, November 2, 2018 — CARE for the Cape and Islands presented their 2018 Stewardship Awards November 1, at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster during the “CARE About a Clean Cape & Islands Summit: Protecting Our Environment from Plastic Pollution and Litter”.

The recipients were selected from a variety of nominations from the community based upon the following criteria 1) Shows a commitment to Caring for the Cape and Islands
2) Has adopted daytoday practices that fit CARE’s mission to preserve and enhance its natural environment, wildlife habitats, culture or historic places.

RideAway Adventures was nominated by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce for their commitment to educating their clients on methods of sustainability and conservation, working with a variety of local nonprofits and employing teachers and students giving them additional income that allowed them to be able to live year-round on Cape Cod. The ten year old company is owned and operated by Michael Morrison and has locations in Mashpee and Sandwich.

In addition, CARE awarded its first Youth Stewardship Award to Lucy Swain, at student at Lighthouse Charter School who has been actively working to educate the community about the dangers of plastic in the ocean. She was inspired by her family’s trip last year where she conducted research and saw firsthand the impact of ocean plastic.

The Summit was attended by more than fifty representatives from the Cape and Islands representing municipalities, environmental organizations and local businesses who spent the morning sharing best practices, challenges and setting goals to develop solutions to plastic and litter issues.

The morning’s event concluded with a beach cleanup at Paine’s Creek in Brewster where attendees spent time collecting trash. The inspiration for the cleanup was a request from a boy, Wes, who is battling cancer and put out a challenge to the community to conduct cleanups in order to clean the ocean.
