Highfield Hall and Gardens Estate Walking Tour
Highfield Hall & Gardens to resume estate walks lead by the talented Highfield Hall volunteer docents. Enjoy an enhanced program during February as Co-Executive Director and Chief Interpretation and Engagement Officer Joanne Ingersoll leads a portion of the tour as it relates to the manor and current exhibit: Personae Gratae: Begin at Home
Open to the public on Tuesday, January 28th, 2020 and closing Sunday, March 22nd, 2020.
(Falmouth, Massachusetts) Docent-led estate walks will begin at Highfield Hall & Gardens and as a special bonus in February the insightful hour tour features an expert look at our current art exhibition.
Join us from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM for an estate walk. Discover the fascinating history of the original owners (the Beebe family), the house, and the grounds. Discuss the exterior architecture and compare photos of the house throughout the past century. Hear the story of how this superb historic building was saved by grassroots community support. Learn about the tenacity and vision that continues as new research on the structure, its story, and that of the people who lived here add to the building’s significance.
In the second half of the tour, curator, Joanne Ingersoll, our expert on late-nineteenth-century design and textiles, leads a discussion on the house and current exhibit. Observe how the show honors the concept of home and its physical, spiritual, and symbolic elements. Consider the importance of the historic home, Highfield Hall, as a valuable cultural resource from our past. See influential furniture and decorative art from the early twentieth century, and twelve contemporary artists who share their perspectives on the key concepts of home.
