The Race for the Cape Cod Community on Saturday September 9th at Mashpee Commons. Grand Marshal, U.S. Congressman Bill Keating, kicked off the event as part of a patriotic opening ceremony including a flyover by a US Coast Guard Jayhawk Helicopter, the Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard and live entertainment by the Cape Conservatory Jazz Band. A total of 18 teams competed in the four hour endurance race of Formula One race karts from F1 Boston, with winners named in both the Elite and Open Divisions. The winner of the Elite Division was the team from Shepley and Andersen, followed closely by second place finishers Cape Cod Aggregates and taking third place was the team from Cape Cod Commercial Linen Service and E.J. Jaxtimer Builder.

In the Open Division, the winning team was one with drivers from six different companies: Curley Direct, Platinum Auto Service, Cape Cod Paper, Joseph Finnemore Housewright, John G. Sears & Son Landscaping and Glen Builders. Taking second place and also the Fastest Lap and Bank Cup trophies was the team from TD Bank/Oceanside Pools/Coca-Cola and third place went to EF Winslow/A&E Forms/Chattitude Brands. The Sportsmanship Award was presented to Bridge Creek Capital Management and the trophy for the Drivers Cup Fundraising Challenge went to Pam Aggerbeck from Cape Cod Coffee.

Open Division Winners – 2017 Seaside Le Mans: The winner of the Open Division in the 2017 Seaside Le Mans was the combined team of Curley Direct, Platinum Auto Service, Cape Cod Paper, Joseph Finnemore Housewright, John G. Sears Landscaping and Glen Builders.

The 45-minute Cape Cod Healthcare pre-race with 12 teams was won by the “Rapid Responders” from the Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Center. Cape Cod Healthcare, the official medical care provider for the race, also hosted the medical tent and the blood drive with their Blood Mobile.

Although the competition was often spirited, all teams agree that the true winners of this race are the beneficiary organizations and the Cape Cod community overall. Donations are sent to the Cape Cod Foundation, which in turn distributes the funds to this year’s beneficiaries: Cape Cod and Islands Major Crisis Relief Fund, Cape Cod Healthcare, Lower Cape Outreach Council, Mass Audubon Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary and Special Olympics Massachusetts. Between kart sponsorships and matching contributions, the five beneficiaries shared in $600,000, bringing the seventeen year total to over $6 million, with all funds directly benefiting the Cape Cod community. Unique among fundraisers, 100% of sponsorship dollars go directly to the chosen beneficiaries since The Davenport Companies cover all event-related costs.

Plans are already underway for the 18th Annual Seaside Le Mans, scheduled for Saturday September 8, 2018. For more information on the race and sponsorship opportunities, please contact DeWitt Davenport or Kelsey Ellis at 508-398-2293 or visit www.seasidelemans.org.
