Race Results from the 2016 Seaside Le Mans

$600,000 was raised for Cape non-profits as the team from Cape Cod Commercial Linen Service/E.J. Jaxtimer Builder raced to the finish as winners of the 16th Annual Seaside Le Mans – The Race for the Cape Cod Community on Saturday September 10th at Mashpee Commons. The winners beat 17 other teams competing in the four hour endurance race of Formula One race karts from F1 Boston. Grand Marshal, U.S. Congressman Bill Keating, kicked off the event as part of a patriotic opening ceremony including a flyover by Cape Air, a medley of songs by the “We Are The Men” singers, the national anthem sung by Ben Ninesling of CapeCodCAN! and an appearance by the Civil Air Patrol Honor Guard.

Following closely behind the winning team were second place finishers Cape Cod Aggregates and taking third place was the Shepley/Andersen team. The fastest lap trophy went to Cape Cod Commercial Linen Service/E.J. Jaxtimer Builder, the Sportsmanship Award was presented to Chatham Wayside Inn and the Bank Cup was won by The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod. The newly added Race Monitor app provided up to the minute scoring as spectators and racers followed all the action throughout the day. The 45-minute Cape Cod Healthcare pre-race with 10 teams was won by the “Rapid Responders” from the Cape Cod Hospital Emergency Center. Cape Cod Healthcare, the official medical care provider for the race, also hosted the medical tent and collected 40 pints of blood at the Blood Mobile.

Although the competition was often spirited, all teams agree that the true winners of this race are the beneficiary organizations and the Cape Cod community overall. Donations are sent to the Cape Cod Foundation, which in turn distributes the funds to this year’s beneficiaries: Homeless Not Hopeless, Gosnold on Cape Cod, Cape Cod Collaborative Arts Network (CapeCodCAN!), Sail Cape Cod and Cape Cod Healthcare. Between kart sponsorships and matching contributions, the five beneficiaries shared in $600,000, bringing the fifteen year total to well over $5 million, with all funds directly benefiting the Cape Cod community. Unique among fundraisers, 100% of sponsorship dollars go directly to the chosen beneficiaries since The Davenport Companies cover all event-related costs.

Plans are already underway for the 17th Annual Seaside Le Mans, scheduled for Saturday September 9, 2017. For more information on the race and sponsorship opportunities, please contact DeWitt Davenport or Kelsey Ellis at 508-398-2293 or visit www.seasidelemans.org.
