Mashpee High School Road Race to Benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod by Austin Gray

Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod – Austin Gray

The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod was incorporated into the mashpee community on April 27,1995, and since then has succeeded in its mission “to provide a safe place to inspire and enable all young people on Cape Cod to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens”. Located at 31 Frank E. Hicks Dr,  the building has provided affordable After school programs and summer camps for children.

For almost 11 years I have spent my time being enrolled at the Boys and Girls Club. Starting in 1st grade I have gone through the entire program; From all the age groups ( 1st-2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th), to a C.I.T ( counselor in training) , to the present day where I am employed as a Counselor.  I have loved every minute of it. At a young age I remember going to the “Club” every day after school. Full of energy I would always enjoy playing new and inventive games in the gymnasium. Upon becoming tired, I remember finding  downtime in other areas of the facility; I could go complete homework in the quiet atmosphere of the “computer room” or play a relaxing game of pool or air hockey. I was never bored. Over the Summer, the club provided me with countless field trips. From small trips like our weekly beach trip or to large trips like the Boston children’s museum. As I grew older the Boys and Girls Club  programs  evolved to suite my age. Field trips no longer included younger demographic activities but  included trips like kayaking or camping.

This evolution is what makes the Boys And Girls Club so special. From Age 7 to now age 17. I have always found interesting activities to participate in. This is why I think it is time to give back. That is why this April I am organizing a 5k fun run/walk for my senior project at my school. This event will be benefiting the Boys and Girls club of Cape Cod as well as the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce. Please come out and support this great event.

Austin’s event, the Mashpee High School Road Race to Benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Cape Cod and the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce, takes place on April 23rd. For sponsorship opportunities contact the Mashpee Chamber of Commerce at 508-477-0792 or email
