Friends of Falmouth/Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge Annual Meeting

Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve Visitor Center
131 Waquoit Highway (Rt. 28) Waquoit

The Friends of Mashpee NWR invite those interested to attend their annual meeting to learn more about their valuable work and volunteer opportunities with the Friends group and the Wildlife Refuge. This meet and greet event is open to all and will feature a presentation about our local rivers, Mashpee, Quashnet, Childs and Santuit, and the on-going habitat work aimed at restoring native fisheries. Justin Fleming from the Sea-Run Brook Trout Coalition (SRBTC), a science-based, grassroots alliance of academics, fishery biologists, ecologists, non-governmental organizations, and private citizens whose goal is the preservation and restoration of wild, native coastal brook trout in their historic range, will be here to share past successes and inform us about future plans for restoring these valuable resources.

Light refreshments will be served from 6:00 – 6:30 along with the opportunity to meet Refuge partners and Friends and learn about the many project opportunities available from over $45,000 worth of grants the Friends Group has been awarded. Gardening, education, native pollinator habitat creation, newsletter editor, construction and board of director needs are just a few of the options to explore.

Your skills, energy, and excitement are needed; Cape volunteers continue to improve the refuge for future recreation and conservation opportunities…so…get involved and help make a difference in your community!

A short business meeting will follow the presentation to elect officers, summarize our successes and present the David Ross Palmer 2017 Environmental Award to a Refuge outstanding citizen. A citizen who has made outstanding contributions to the Refuge.
