If you don’t want to spend the day at the beach this weekend, and would rather hang out in town, then this is the perfect opportunity to do so! The Mashpee Commons will be hosting a neighborhood block party on Saturday, August 22nd from 12 to 8 PM. This block party is open to everyone, so please join in on the fun if you’re in the neighborhood! There will be family-friendly activities all throughout Mashpee Commons, as well as live music and food vendors. This year, the block party will conclude with a movie screening at dusk, so you might want to plan to spend the day in Mashpee. Kids are most definitely welcome, because there will be plenty of entertainment for them, from bouncy houses, to face painting, to sidewalk chalk, and much more! All the activities are free and open to the public.
The Mashpee Commons is home to several local businesses that work with us. One of these businesses is Siena’s, a restaurant I have been to a few times for my birthday and Christmas Eve. It’s a cozy place, with two floors–the downstairs is the main restaurant and the upstairs is the bar where you can watch TV amidst music playing in the background. I’ve only been to the main restaurant, where I have eaten incredibly delicious food. For the adults, they also serve specialty drinks as well, which happen to be just as good. It’s fortunate that Siena’s is in the Mashpee Commons, because then you can walk those calories off afterwards by window shopping!
I suggest stopping by Siena’s at the end of the day, after the block party, so you can enjoy a nice meal at the restaurant or have a couple drinks and watch television up at the bar. Take my word for it, you will not regret it. Is there really any other way to end the perfect summer’s day on Cape Cod?
If you know I am a resident at LIFE, Inc., then you would know there’s another resident who lives on the Hyannis campus who had his artwork displayed at Woodruff’s Art Center: Owen Siskund. Woodruff’s Art Center is just next door to us on Market Street in Mashpee Commons. Woodruff’s Art Center is a locally-owned business that features art supplies and framework, as well as displaying the artwork of local residents. The painting featured there are abstract, and yet they tell a story.
Art is such a wonderful way to express creativity without using words. The great thing about it is that it can be anything you want it to be! If you want to be inspired or just have a look around, I suggest stopping by Woodruff’s Art Center. It is open on Saturdays from 10 AM to 6 PM, so perhaps stop by before going to the block party.
I think everyone has a sweet tooth and cravings for sweets. There’s nothing like a piece of chocolate bar that melts in your mouth and you can savor that taste even long after it’s gone. Ghelfi’s Candies of Cape Cod offers extensive handmade candies, from almond butter crunch to chocolate covered turties that are made with pecan. There’s also sea salt caramels—that sounds delicious in my opinion!—and cream & butter fudge. If you are a visitor or seasonal resident to Mashpee or the Lower Cape, and you find yourself wanting more of Ghelfi’s Candies after you’ve gone back home, don’t worry. They deliver!
A few years ago, I stopped at The Write Choice while shopping at the Mashpee Commons. I bought a password safe-keeping book and several occasion cards—specifically for Mother’s Day and my sister’s birthday. The password safe-keeping book was nothing I had ever come across before, and I certainly have a lot of passwords for a lot of accounts over many websites. If you are anything like me, you would definitely find it handy to have in a safe spot in case you ever forget your password or get them mixed up. Or worse, the computer where you store your password crashes. The Write Choice also has unique gifts that are mostly made on Cape Cod, but they also come from all across the country and around the world. The Write Choice also provides a gift registry, where they will wrap and ship the packages to you. This is not a place you will want to miss when you come to the Mashpee Commons.
