Becki’s Blog – Ferry Schedule and Information

There is a reason this part of Massachusetts is called Cape Cod & The Islands, because Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket are as rich in history and as important to the state as the rest of Cape Cod. Visitors near and far go to The Islands for a picturesque getaway. If you are a resident or visitor who frequents South Cape Beach, or have a summer home in New Seabury, then you know Martha’s Vineyard is visible on the far end of the horizon.

While you spend the week or summer in Mashpee, you should definitely make plans to go and enjoy a day or weekend on these gorgeous islands! Martha’s Vineyard is the perfect getaway for everyone, from the wee tots to the grandparents. Visit charming Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs.  We can’t forget Nantucket Island, which is the destination for visitors and summertime residents. Nantucket is rooted deep in history along with restaurants and galleries lining the streets.

We still have over two months of summer to go before we have to think about another brutal New England winter with layer upon layer of snow burying us. Take advantage of these wonderful summer days on Cape Cod by planning a getaway to Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket today.

Now the question is, how will you get here? There are ferry services from Falmouth Harbor and Hyannis that go to the Islands at least once a day. You use the Island Queen to get to Martha’s Vineyard while to get to Nantucket, you use the Hyannis-Nantucket High Speed Ferry. The great thing about Mashpee is that with the rotary, there is no hassle in getting to Falmouth or Hyannis via Route 28.

Island Queen (Martha’s Vineyard)
You want to go to Falmouth Harbor, which is located on 75 Falmouth Heights Road in Falmouth.

Directions: To get here from Mashpee, you take Route 28—which you can access by taking the final exit on the Mashpee Rotary coming from Great Neck Road South; if you are coming from Great Neck Road North, you take the second exit on the Mashpee Rotary—past Falmouth Plaza, which will be on the left, and take a turn onto Falmouth Heights Road. Friendly’s Restaurant will be on the corner as you take the turn. Go ¼ mile to the Island Queen Dock and Ticket office.

Parking and Tickets: There are two parking lots, both of which are about 200 yards from the pier and are within walking distance. Parking for the day and overnight is $15 per calendar day.
