BCREPC on alert for weekend storm
BARNSTABLE (MA) January 21, 2016 – The Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC) held a conference call at 1 p.m. Thursday to discuss the winter weather predicted to arrive on Cape Cod over the Saturday/Sunday time frame. The latest forecast models show the storm traveling south of Cape Cod resulting in a much lighter snowfall than that which is expected in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
A decision on whether or not to activate the Regional Shelter System would be made when there is more certainty about the storm’s track and intensity. At this time, the BCREPC has asked all its Regional Shelter System partners to notify their members to remain on alert. The BCREPC advises the citizens of Barnstable County to remain “weather aware” and be prepared for winter weather conditions.

Additional information on preparedness is available from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) at www.mass.gov/mema or the FEMA website at www.ready.gov or call 2-1-1. For specific local information, citizens should contact the emergency management office in their town.

About the Barnstable County Regional Emergency Planning Committee (BCREPC)
The BCREPC was founded in September 2002 to assist the communities on Cape Cod and the Town of Nantucket with addressing hazardous materials emergency planning and response as required by the federal government. Today, the BCREPC has expanded its scope to include “All Hazard” emergency planning issues such as storm response, sheltering and grants management. The REPC is coordinated by the Barnstable County Department of Health and the Environment.
